Effective Strategies for Working from Home: Tips for Staying Productive

During the COVID pandemic, we changed how we thought about many things in our daily lives. Working from home is possible, but it can also help us live better lives.

People who work from home aren’t just going to work in their pajamas and open their laptops a few minutes before their shift starts. It should be like the office you used to work in. The new home office should be like that, too.

Is it that way? Take a look around. Or are you ignoring things or working in a dark corner of your kitchen because you don’t have an excellent place to work in your home?

It can be bad for your body and mind if you work from home incorrectly. This isn’t me saying it. There have been studies done since we were forced to start working from home worldwide.

I think some things are the best ways for you to deal with this new tendency and even enjoy it, so let’s look at them how to be productive working from home.

working from home

I’ve worked from home in different jobs in the last decade or so. Because we live in a two-bedroom apartment, I’ve worked from my couch in front of the TV and from a living room table corner. You might think that your posture or the light in your living room might be affecting how you feel when you’re away from home, but I’ve been there.

Getting the right place where you can work isn’t always easy. I get it now.

I don’t know if there is a way to find it, but if there isn’t, you’ll start having recurrences, which could even affect your work from home.

Consistently, I like to say that there are two significant places where you need to spend time and money: the physical world and your mind. In this article, I want to talk about the physical world or the tools you use to do your job.

Tech Tips for Working From Home – Designate a Workspace

Whether or not you work from home, I think you’re sitting in front of a computer. That’s how you connect with the outside world. Some table or desk, a chair, a mouse, a keyboard, and at least one screen.

In this case, I think it would be best for you to go as far as possible. You might not be able to do that all at once because ergonomic gear can be pricey. Many things can go wrong if you don’t stand in the right way.

The idea that you’re “saving money” because you only have a laptop to do your job might not be the best idea. You might be giving up something even more important than money. When you buy ergonomic gear, you should think of it as a good thing.

Here are some things to think about when you’re trying to figure out which areas to work on first:

Do You Type Often?

Use this keyboard to do it: Do your wrists hurt when you type for a long time? You might be interested in a split keyboard if this is you. The ergonomic keyboard market is vast, and it’s not cheap. One that lets you move your fingers less and change the angle of your arm and wrist to relieve the pain caused by how you move them every day.

Our arms should not face inwards on traditional keyboards, and our wrists should not bend outwards when writing. This is not how we should write, and it is not how we should write. Your body, not your mind, is probably affected by a traditional keyboard.

The price of a good ergonomic keyboard can range from $250 to $400. That price is a little high, so do some research. If that doesn’t work out, you might want to look for a used one that might be less expensive.

Do You Sit a Lot?

Even working from home, you might not always be sitting down. You might be walking around your home office or having a standing desk. That’s great!

Think about the fact that our bodies were not meant to be sitting for long periods. While it might seem like desk jobs have been around for a long time, it’s like the blink of an eye in evolutionary terms.

We often have to force our bodies to stay still in unnatural positions so that we can work. Sitting is one of these positions; even though you might not think so, it is true. It might be a good idea if you have to sit for a long time every day.

Sitting has three essential things you need to think about:

  • Your Back’s Position: It should be straight up as if you were standing up, so it looks right. As a result, your lower back should be arching forward, and your upper back should be bending backward; if you aren’t doing this, your spine is already in an unnatural position because you are not doing this.
  • Your Arms Should Be Able to Rest: Keep them down all day, and don’t just put your hand on your desk while you have both of your arms in the air. You can’t do this all day. When you’re not using your forearms, they should have a place to rest while you’re not using them.
  • Your Knees Should Ideally Be Straight: They should not bend more than 90 degrees inside. People should stop crossing their feet under their chairs. That’s making your knees hurt.

On the other hand, a good chair will have an armrest and lumbar support, and it will be able to be adjusted to get into the right knee angle for your body. Get one like that, and if you’re unsure, think about the fact that many people go for a gaming chair because they’re made for people who spend a lot of time in front of a computer: gamers.

However, there is also a much better way to work: to stand up. Stand-up desks are desks that you can move so that you can work while standing up straight. People like them because they help with their posture and make them move more naturally. The best thing to do is get a chair that can be adjusted in height. This way, you can go from standing to sitting with the press of a button.

The standing desk and the right chair aren’t cheap, so make sure you do what you can. The keyboard is the same way. If you can’t afford to buy a new one, look for a used one. They might be a lot less expensive.

Your health will be better in the long run because your posture will get better, no matter what you do.

Wellness Tips for Working From Home: Do You Have Any Issues With Your Eyesight?

I’ve spent most of my adult life and many years before that in front of a computer. And even though most monitors now have all the filters you need to protect your eyesight, you might still be getting headaches after using the computer for a long time without taking a break.

That could be because of many different things, and you should talk to your doctor about it. In the meantime, think about the following:

  • Is there too much lightning where you work? Working outside on a sunny day might be too bright for you. This is why it might be hard for you. That might be too bright for your screen. You might have to strain your eyes to see what’s in front of you, even if the computer can adjust the screen’s contrast to match the environment. The lights around you might need to be changed. You might want to make them a little dimmer if you don’t need them for other things, like writing down notes or looking at the keyboard while typing.
  • If so, what color are they? Most new glasses come with what are called “blue filters.” These filters reduce the amount of blue light that gets into your eyes. Its short wavelength makes it possible for our eyes to see most of what comes out of our monitors. This is because electronic devices tend to emit a lot of it. They say this wavelength of light may harm our retinas because we spend so much time in front of screens. It wouldn’t be an issue if we only spent a few minutes or hours a day in front of a screen. This means that blue filters might be helpful if you haven’t already added them, so you might want to do that.
  • Do you use “dark mode” when it’s available? Most applications have a very light color theme by default. Some even have a white background. And that means your eyes are always getting a lot of bright light while working. Putting black letters on a white background might seem like the best way to read, but it’s not. Most of that white is used as a background, so you have to focus on the thin black lines that make up each letter instead. Switching to a dark mode might help you read and write more at work. This means that most of the applications you use will be dark (almost black), and the letters will be lighter colors (closer to white). Rather than taking in 99 percent of it, you’ll only have to deal with the last 1 percent now. If you use web platforms and don’t have a proper dark mode, the best thing to do is to look for plugins or extensions for your favorite browser. There is likely one that will help you by making the dark mode work.

Taking good care of your eyes is just as important as taking good care of your body. Don’t forget them.
